Q: What type of certification will I receive upon successful completion of the course?

A: Students will receive the provider eCard corresponding to the course they took. The available card types have matching course titles :

  • Heartsaver K-12 First Aid & CPR AED

  • Pediatric Heartsaver First Aid & CPR AED

Q: Is the certification I receive nationally recognized?

A: Yes, as it's an American Heart Association (AHA) certification

 

Q: How long is my certification valid for?

A: Typically, most AHA courses last two years; however, the bloodborne pathogens certification course needs to be renewed annually.

 

Q: How will I receive my certification card/eCard?

A: Your certification will be emailed to you in the form of an eCard. The email will provide the student with a link to claim their eCard.

 

Q: What if I lose my certification card? Can I get a replacement?

A: eCards can be retrieved by visiting https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards and entering your first name, last name, and the email address associated with the card in the ‘Student’ tab. If you have saved your eCard code, you can enter that alone to obtain a copy as well.

         * Employers needing to retrieve a copy of an employee’s certification can do so within the employer tab. EMskillz instructors will send the employer a list of eCard codes via email for their records. Employers can only view cards that the student has claimed.

 

Q: How can I verify the authenticity of my certification?

A: Each card has specific security features that include a scannable QR code that navigates to a copy of your card and an eCard code that is unique to every AHA eCard issued.

 

Q: Do you offer renewal courses?

A: We do offer renewal courses. To maximize class size, provider and renewal courses can be combined simultaneously.

 

Q: What are the requirements for renewing my certification?

A: A student must have a copy of their current AHA certification, which cannot be expired.

 

Q: What topics will be covered in the CPR course?

A: There are two types of CPR certifications, Heartsaver® and Basic Life Support (BLS). Individuals who are not medical (do not provide patient care) require Heartsaver®. Individuals who work in healthcare require BLS.

 

Heartsaver students will learn:

  • Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival

  • Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival

  • Recognize when someone needs CPR

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult

  • Describe how to perform CPR with help from others

  • Give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups

  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult

  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child*

  • Demonstrate how to use an AED on a child*

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant*

  • Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child

  • Demonstrate how to help a choking infant*

BLS students will learn:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components

  • Important early use of an AED

  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device

  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR

  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

 

Q: Is there a hands-on component to the training?

A: Yes, the AHA requires all classes to have a hands-on component prior to receiving your certification card.

 

Q: What is the duration of the CPR course?

A: Both the Heartsaver® and BLS are scheduled for four hours of instruction; however, the courses realistically take approximately 2.5 hours.

 

Q: What should I bring to the CPR class?

A: Everything you will need for class is provided. You may bring a copy of the provider manual, note-taking material, food, and drink as you see fit.

 

Q: What is the cancellation/rescheduling policy?

A: Students who are unable to attend their scheduled class may reschedule once for free. Any subsequent rescheduling will incur a $10 fee. Students must text the instructor at 931-240-3559 at least 24 hours before the class. Those who fail to notify the instructor of their cancellation will be marked as a no-show. Cancellations made even 24 hours before the course are not eligible for a refund.

 

Q: Do you offer online or blended learning options?

A: Yes, we offer skills assessment-style courses for all AHA course types. Students must purchase the HeartCode online course from the AHA and then pay for the skills assessment separately through EMskillz.

 

Q: Are your instructors certified by the AHA?

A: Yes, EMskillz, LLC is an AHA Training Center, and all affiliated instructors are certified by the AHA. Instructor certification can be verified at https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards under the employer tab by entering the instructor’s eCard code.

 

Q: Is your agency an authorized training provider of the American Heart Association?

Q: Do you follow the latest American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC)?

Q: How can I provide feedback on my course experience?

Q: Are there any prerequisites for taking the CPR course?

A: There are no prerequisites for the Heartsaver® and BLS courses. However, ACLS and PALS students must complete the Precourse self-assessments. The ACLS and PALS Precourse self-assessment can be found at https://elearning.heart.org/

 

Q: Is this course suitable for healthcare professionals or laypersons?

A: Both. EMskillz offers courses for both healthcare professionals and laypersons.

 

Q: I have a physical limitation. Can I still participate in the course?

A: Yes, EMskillz supports Americans with Disabilities practices and provides individuals with physical limitations the ability to perform tasks they are capable of. Students who pass the written exam and can orally describe the procedures of CPR will receive a BLS Advisor card.

 

Q: How much does the CPR course cost?

A: Both Heartsaver® and BLS are $80.

Q: Do you offer group discounts for organizations or businesses?

A: Yes, we offer a 20% discount to all groups consisting of at least 5 students.

 

Q: Can you provide on-site training for our company?

A: Yes, EMskillz instructors will travel to your site to conduct the training. We require the training facility to have Wi-Fi and an HDMI-capable television available.
